Software Defined Radio and Next Generation Hardware
These courses cover technologies that are being incorporated into the latest hardware for next generation systems.
| 207 | LTE Enabling Technologies WCDMA is the initial standard (1999) for the physical layer of the 3rd generation of mobile communication systems. Since then the standard is constantly evolving through Release 5 (HSDPA), Release 6 (HSUPA) , Release 7 (DL MIMO, IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem)) and Release 8 (LTE-Long Term Evolution) |
| 102 | Adaptive Receivers & Software Radio for Wireless Communications: Evolution of 3G/4G Technology This five-day course provides a comparative study of WCDMA and TDMA receiver elements, focused on the future coexistence of these two systems in dual mode (and, potentially, software) receivers. Channel adaptive and system adaptive concepts will be discussed. Applications are personal, indoor and the third and fourth generation of land and satellite mobile radio communications. Cellular networks and wireless LAN will also be covered. This is an advanced course; EE background and familiarity with digital communications fundamentals is required. |
| 184 | Broadband Wireless Communications: 3G/4G, WLAN and WPAN Technology, Including HSDPA, 3.9G, IEEE 802.11, 15, 16, and HIPERLAN2 This course will start with a 4G system concept that integrates available advanced technologies and then focus on system adaptability and reconfigurability as a possible option to meet a variety of service requirements, available resources and channel conditions. The presentation will also offer a vision beyond the state of the art with the emphasis on how the advanced technologies can be used for an efficient 4G multiple access. It will also present a possible approach based on system sensitivity function and show a few examples from practice. |
| 150 | Wireless System Design and Simulation At the end of the course, we look at a variety of challenges facing the systems designer; we examine some 'real' air interface specifications, and we work an example of the complete design process, from air interface specification through to circuit design, including a discussion of software defined radio. Please see the course outline for day five. |
